Thomas Wolf, who wrote the novel You Can’t Go Home Again was wrong. You Can Go Home Again. Deidre Pujols returns to the “home” of Albert Pujols’ baseball career with the Peoria Chiefs. The Chiefs, at that time, were part of the St. Louis Cardinals franchise and, were paying Albert the princely sum of $252.00 every two weeks. As Deidre stated, “We were truly living on love, as we ate a lot of macaroni dinners in those days.”
Those days have obviously changed for the better. Deidre and her husband Albert have been blessed with five children, one of which has Down Syndrome. This condition of a family member was the driving force behind the creation of the Pujols‌ Family Foundation, an organization dedicated to assisting families of children with Down Syndrome. This foundation is also
extensively involved in humanitarian efforts in Albert’s native home, the Dominican Republic.
In addition to serving as President of the Pujols Family Foundation, Deidre is the Founder and CEO of Open Gate International. This organization assists vulnerable populations such as the survivors of human trafficking reintegrate back into society by providing alternative training and employment. Please plan to come and hear a powerful story of how these two organizations are being used to reach out to many people who would otherwise be forgotten.
