Morton Civil War Days

The Morton Tourism Association and the 9th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry is proud to host the 1st Annual Morton Civil War Days.  The event will be held in Morton’s Southwood Park and is free to the attend.

For the inaugural event, we have brought in a variety of demonstrations, speakers, battles, and more.  There is a historical scavenger hunt that children under 12 can participate in as well as a candy cannon.  The cannon will shoot candy out of it, in which children can retrieve it after it fires.   There will also be appearances by General Grant and General Lee.

A battle reenactment complete with infantry, cavalry and artillery will take place each afternoon.  Each battle will serve as a display to the style of tactics and communication that was used during the civil war.  Each battle will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

The 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band will be performing before and after the battles as well as for a Period Ball that will take from 7pm to 9pm.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the ball in modern attire.

After the battles, you can watch a First Person Medical Demonstration that will include surgical procedures during the civil war being demonstrated on a wounded soldier.  There is also an embalmer that demonstrations techniques of embalming during the era.

It is our goal to host and grow this event for many years to come. For more Information on our event visit: www.mortoncivilwardays.com
