MORTON BBQ THROWDOWN
JULY 25 & 26, 2014
After months of planning this weekend Morton will host the 4th Annual Morton BBQ Throwdown, a fundraising event for Illinois CancerCare Foundation. On July 25th and 26th teams from all over the Midwest will be setting up camp in downtown Morton to vie for the coveted Grand Champion award for being the creator of the best BBQ. On Friday, July 25th the Throwdown’s hours will be 5p – 10p with a $5.00 admission fee from 5p – 9p (children 17 & under are free with an adult).Featured on the entertainment stage is Midnight Special from 5p – 7:30p and Jury’s Out from 7:30p -10p. Food vendors and the beer garden will be open. You can visit the competitors and watch as they load their smokers and prepare the meats they will be cooking for competition, and maybe they will give you a few pointers because they definitely like to talk BBQ. They will be cooking all night and the Village should smell amazing.
We will also have two smoker vendors on site so be sure to stop by and visit their booths! You just might want to consider purchasing one! On Saturday the festivities continue with free admission from 10a to 2p. The Backyard Barbeque Contest, a separate competition featuring local barbequing talent, opens at 10a. Come see the great campsite decorations.
At 10a the Craft & Vendor Fair will be open on Jefferson School Playground, as well as a Kid’s Play Area featuring bounce houses, Unique Twist Balloons, petting zoo, and face painting until 5p. Want to taste the competitor’s creations. On Saturday ONLY . . . starting at 11:30 tickets will go on sale for $5 to judge all the teams’ entries. Each person will receive a gold coin which they will use to vote for their favorite style BBQ. The winner of the People’s Choice award will be announced at the awards ceremony for the whole competition on the stage from 4p to 5p.

Our food vendors include Barrack’s Cater Inn, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Hick’ry Stick BBQ, Meat-N-Place, MHS Football Team, Morton Tourism Association, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Progressive Poppers, Schwan’s, Eli’s Coffee and The American Legion.
The raffle prizes including an iPad 3, gift certificate Jones Bros. Jewelers, and Southwest Airlines tickets! We will also have an on-site raffle only for a Smoker from Dave’s Drums and a Green Egg! Tickets can be purchased at the event until the drawing being held at 6p on Saturday night. We will also have live music throughout the day on Saturday starting at 2p featuring The Road Less Traveled followed by 3 and a Half Men. You will not want to miss the 4th Annual Morton BBQ Throwdown so mark your calendars and prepare to loosen your belt because this event will be filled with good crafts, good music, and great food. Morton Fine Arts Association Presents "Arts in the Park" Concert Series Featuring " West McQueen Street Band" Thursday July 30th 7pm
“Arts in the Park” Concert July 30th 7-9pm Idlewood Arts Pavilion featuring Pekin Park Concert Band. The Free concert is from 7 to 9 pm. Approximately 900 to 1000 people bring their lawn chairs, blankets and families to the park to enjoy a different style of music each week.
